People tend to take care of themselves when they start to age and assess every situation carefully before going ahead with something. However, one woman is getting ready to welcome a new baby at the age of 70.

A woman in Mexico is claiming that she’s six months pregnant – which could potentially make her the oldest new mother ever when she gives birth. Maria de la Luz, who already has seven children, showed an ultrasound scan to back up her pregnancy claim. She has been told that she will be having a baby girl.

She said: “My legs hurt and I was vomiting and felt dizzy.

“Now they have done around ten ultrasounds in a private clinic and in the (public) social security hospital. The doctors could not believe it.

“They told me it is a girl. Look, you can see her little face.”

As of now, the oldest new mother record is held by Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara, who was 66 when she had twin boys via IVF in 2006. The Spanish mother had apparently lied about her age to receive the fertility treatment in California, which was labelled as irresponsible and selfish by her family at the time.

The twin boys, Christian and Pau, were delivered prematurely by caesarean section and weighed 3.5 Ibs each. Unfortunately, she died from cancer less than three years after giving birth.

Meanwhile, de la Luz, has not revealed the details of her pregnancy, specifically whether she has used any IVF or other fertility treatments. She is expected to have her baby via caesarean section due to her age.

Maria said that some of her children were not pleased with the news and told her that she was too old for ‘those things’.

So is there any precedent for pregancy at 70 years of age? A woman in India who claimed to be that old gave birth to twins in 2008 but authorities weren’t able to verify her age.
